Vernooij et al. review the pathogenesis of fibrofolliculomas and suggest that they arise from the sebaceous gland rather than the hair follicle. They discuss potential disease mechanisms and how these relate to the related syndromes Cowden’s disease, Muir-Torre syndrome and Tuberous sclerosis as well as other skin abnormalities that might be associated with BHD, treatment of skin lesions, and future perspectives.
